I paint using a semi-impressionistic style on surfaces as varied as canvas, linen, wood panels and aluminium panels. I usually make a sketch or drawing to plan out my final work, but sometimes I will sketch directly on to the canvas. Most of my work is in the studio but I am always excited by the chance to go outdoors to paint en plein air.
I am a self-taught artist with experience of painting using media such as acrylics, gouache and oils although I now paint predominantly with oils. I first discovered my passion for drawing and colouring when in secondary school. My career took a different turn and I became a doctor and then trained as an orthopaedic surgeon. However in recent years I have rediscovered my passion for art and I started painting regularly at the start of the pandemic to help myself relax. Soon I found different sources to try and improve my techniques and also started to show my art at various places. The encouragement that I received from these events made me even more motivated to experiment and improve constantly and I have really enjoyed the journey so far.
I am a member of the Medical Arts Society, and have shown my work at the society exhibitions as well as holding solo exhibitions at my workplace for charitable causes. My art has been selected for the RBSA Friends exhibition in 2024 and 2025 and the RBSA summer show in 2024.
Nature is my source of boundless inspiration, and never ceases to give me cause to fulfil my creative side. I am also inspired by the beauty in the sights around us that we are often guilty of taking for granted.
I am always drawn to the fascinating effects of light and colour and try to depict this through my art.
Most of all I am driven by the fact that I am always learning and discovering more about myself and my art through my creations.
