I am a full-time doctor, and a self-taught artist who enjoys painting as a hobby. I was first exposed to art when I was in school, and loved the fascinating world that drawing and painting with colours opened up for me. After school, my higher education led me to a very busy career as an orthopaedic surgeon, but I rediscovered my love for art a few years ago. Now I love to relax and rejuvenate my senses by going back to my easel when time allows.
I have exhibited at my workplace for charity, as well as local events and exhibitions and have enjoyed it every time. I am a member of the Medical Arts Society.
I started out with watercolours but now use different mediums. I am definitely partial to oils. I love the versatility and richness of colours of oil paints. It also allows me to work at a pace which suits my style and time constraints because I can work on a canvas for several days and come back to it when I have the time. Sometimes I use acrylics, or gouache especially when I am doing a quick sketch.
I have a great love of nature and the outdoors, so most of my work is landscapes and cityscapes. I am absolutely fascinated by how colours change with the light at the time of the day, or the conditions and season. Sometimes I paint still life too. I often use photographs that I have taken, as my reference material and if I can, I do go out and paint en plein air.
